Cooking Dash






Cooking Dash brings us to a new chapter of Flo's adventurous life. Cookie, the chef of Flo's diner, has gone off to be on his own cooking show. This leaves Flo and her Grandma in charge of the kitchen! Cooking Dash gives you the familiar style of time management that we have come to expect. Seat you customers, prepare their order, and bring them their food. Collect their money, and clean up their seat to prepare for the next customer.



Cooking Dash puts Flo into a whole new arena of frying up steak and chicken, deep frying fries and potato wedges, and leaving Grandma to making the sandwiches. Don't worry, Flo adds some decent food to the menu as you go. Look forward to adding deep fried veggies, frozen yogurt, and orange smoothies to your menu.  Cooking Dash has restored our love of Flo's Diner games. After having a few that we liked, but just couldn't keep up with, making them things we did not want to have, we were finally able to keep up with Cooking Dash again. That makes Cooking Dash once again a game for the entire family. The boys had a great time trying it out, and of course picking out upgrades. Although once again I was left with the problem of too many levels left after running out of upgrades. This is something I can live with to have a computer game that my children can play without getting totally frustrated. Challenge is good. Frustration is bad!

Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave





Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave is a fantastic adventure game, whether you have played Nancy drew computer games before or not. Play as Nancy, and solve her latest mystery. In Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave you are off to Hawaii to work as a research assistant. One of the first things you do in Hawaii is run into who else but the Hardy boys, there on their own assignment.


Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave is a large adventure file game, so no free trial is offered. And when they say large file, they mean it! When you go to download it, it brings up a warning with approximate download times based on the speed of your internet connection. If you have dial up... don't bother... it will be almost 2 days of download time before you can have your computer back! I already knew my backwoods, middle of nowhere, high speed internet connection was slow, but I chanced it anyways. My daughter and I have recently discovered Nancy Drew games, and really enjoy them. I started my download at 3:28pm, and was finally able to start up the game at 7:42 pm...of course I also have three computers online, and kids that need to be pried off with a crow bar! LOL

 
The boys actually came over several times to check out what was going on and ask questions to see if they could help while Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave was up on the computer. I greatly appreciated that I could choose to play as a Junior detective or a Senior detective. The Junior detective mode built clues right into the story. Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave has a Strategy Guide offered. If you enjoy this Nancy Drew game, there are several more to choose from!  The boys completely ignored Fashionista. I wish I could have, but I am dedicated to reviewing all Big Fish Games new releases. Even my teenage daughter took a pass on this one. Fashionista gave you clues as to what aort of design you should put on the cover, but like every other fashion game, my taste is much different! Even my daughter's style did not line up with whatever criteria was there to do well on each level of Fashionista.  Not a game I would recommend.

Lost Secrets: Bermuda Triangle






Lost Secrets: Bermuda Triangle takes you on a diving adventure looking for a ship that went down in the Bermuda Triangle. Join in as Rachel Broadview, and look for clues to what happened to your ancestors in a yet undiscovered ancient shipwreck. Start with lists of hidden objects to be found, and divert your attention with various minigames between levels.





Lost Secrets: Bermuda Triangle can be enjoyed on either a PC or Mac computer. Filled with cleverly hidden objects and realistic pictures, toned blueish-green underwater, this game is full of enjoyment for the entire family. A clever story is told along the way. In fact it almost feels more like you are reading a story and participating in some of the activities along the way.

The boys were curious about Lost Secrets: Bermuda Triangle, but more interested in other pursuits. (It was only 100 degrees today...they spent most of their time outside. It has been a long summer!) My teenage daughter enjoyed scanning for hidden objects with me in Lost Secrets: Bermuda Triangle though.

Anne's Dream World






Enter Anne's Dream World and help defend the village from the jellies. Move the jellies vertically or horizontally along their line to match three or more of them along the front line and they will fall off the attack formation. Anne's Dream World lets you power up different bonuses by matching various colors. After the first wave, the boss will come out to support his troops and must be defeated.


If any of the jellies make it through to the floating wood, your play ends immediately. you are given the opportunity to continue and restart the level to try again. Anne's Dream World offers three different modes of play: Story Mode, Free Mode, and Challenge Mode. The other play modes are unlocked as you progress in the Story Mode. Anne's Dream World is full of bright colors, and cute pictures.


None of my children liked Anne's Dream World. It did inspire them to go looking for a match three game that they do like! Anne's Dream World was not among my favorite match three games either.

Scrapbook Paige






In Scrapbook Paige you will be finding objects hidden within scrapbooking embellishments, and then creating scrapbook pages for customers. Since you will be sorting through all sorts of scrapbook embellishments, you can choose from several different items to fulfill the items on your list of hidden objects. Scrapbook Paige lets you sort through stamps, buttons, old cards, stickers and more to find the requested items.


From there, you will create a scrapbook page for the customer with their specified embellishments. Once finished with the specified embellishments, you can embellish to your hearts content, and continue to earn stars for extra money. Scrapbook Paige gives you the option of working within a time limit or enjoying a stress free relaxed mode. Identify the dinosaur that needs help and make it your mission to rescue them! Diego Dinosaur Rescue even brings Click into the picture. Click on Click to take a picture of your journeys. Collect dinosaur eggs when you take pictures for an extra mini game at the end of the mission in the Dinosaur Rescue Center!


From the museum you can go into your dinosaur book and see all the pictures you have taken. Click on a picture to be transported directly back to that mini game! Diego Dinosaur Rescue allows you to choose to be a Dinosaur Rescuer or an Expert Dinosaur Rescuer. You may also change that setting, adjust the music, or return to the museum by clicking on the little drop down arrow in the top right corner of the screen at any point in the game. It also works as a great pause button! My youngest was enthralled with Diego Dinosaur Rescue, and my older son pretended not to be interested, but couldn't help blurting out in excitement when he found an egg or saw how to do something!

This is definitely a Kid's Game. If your kids like the rescue adventures that Diego goes on, they will love Diego Dinosaur Rescue. And this is a game that the younger kids can play by themselves.  My youngest may have been enthralled with Diego Dinosaur Rescue, but at the age of five, it was simple enough that the answers were obvious to him. I really enjoyed Cinema Tycoon 2: Movie Mania. It reminds me of a Lemonade Tycoon type of game, as you need to set your amounts and then start your day. View your reports and gauge your customers' satisfaction, reset your product, and advertise as needed at the end of the day in preparation for the next day. Everyone liked Cinema Tycoon 2: Movie Mania, but I don't think it is something that the boys will be playing by themselves for a while.

Magic Encyclopedia






You are just graduating from a school for wizards when you receive a special note in Magic Encyclopedia. Follow the clues in the note, and use the teleportation symbols to reach your new destination. Find gems to put together amulets, and find the pieces of various objects which can be assembled and used to solve mini puzzles within the levels. You will also get drawn into mini games within each level that when solved will reveal a missing piece. You may use the hints, and search for question marks within each location to earn more hints. You may even enter a special level to earn a bonus of extra hints. Can you solve the mystery that your brother appears to have gotten you into? 


As you find pieces of the objects in questions, the found piece is represented by a shadow. Once all the pieces for an object are found, it assembles itself and becomes available for your use. Magic Encyclopedia has gorgeous pictures, and cleverly hidden objects. The way that objects needed to be found and put together to be used to find the rest of the objects was enticing! Magic Encyclopedia is a game that all of us had fun with. Another great game to play as a family, or by yourself.



The only small problem that I had with Magic Encyclopedia was that the mini games and puzzles inside of the game taxed my computer or graphics card. They would run, but they were very jerky or would freeze for several seconds before moving on. It made it difficult to play the games, but I managed to get through it to be able to give you an accurate review of Magic Encyclopedia.  I highly recommend the game, but remind you to take advantage of the free trial Big Fish Games offers to make sure the game runs well on your computer system.

Amazing Adventures: Around the World takes you to one exotic location after another searching for hidden objects. Explore a bit of local culture and pick up an interesting fact or two about each place you visit.  Also hidden in each location are two unique gems. Find them all to unlock extra levels at the end. Use the hint button as often as you would like, but it must recharge after each use. Earn a perfect level bonus for finding all the hidden objects yourself!


In between each hidden object screen, play a unique mini game related to the next location. Amazing Adventures: Around the World is a total new hidden object experience, giving you a broad range of fun to encompass everyone's tastes! Amazing Adventures: Around the World is filled with beautiful artwork for each location. I could feel the atmosphere coming through in each picture. I loved that there were so many different types of mini games between hidden object levels. I enjoyed this game much more than any other in recent history!


  The boys were thrilled with Amazing Adventures: Around the World also. The beautiful artwork made looking for objects fun, and the simple ten objects per screen kept the levels short enough to not overwhelm them. My teenage daughter was also drawn in by the pictures, and enjoyed looking for the objects with me. Excellent game to play together, and enjoy some quality time and good conversation!

Crazy Machines






Put together gears and steam engines in Crazy Machines. Assemble the given pieces to make the design work, and get the expected results. You are given fixed pieces on the board, and extra pieces on the right. You are given points based on how long you take and how many tries it takes. You have the option of resetting everything as often as you like, for a point deduction.


Crazy Machines gives you the opportunity to redo any experiments you have already completed. You can also go into your own lab and create your own Crazy Machines! The instructions were not very clear in most of the levels though. Some levels did not even give you an end objective, just "put in the missing pieces, good luck." After several configurations, I figured out what the objective was, and then it was very clear what should be done.... If only they would have told me what the goal was!


  For these obvious reasons, the boys wanted nothing to do with the game. My daughter looked at a few of the puzzles, came to the same conclusions as I, and promptly shut the game down.

Cake Mania 3





Jill is back in Cake Mania 3. At the beginning of the game we are preparing for Jill wedding the next day when... she and the five family and friends around her get transported back in time to different locations. Can Jill bake her cake magic in each location and rescue each person and find their way back before the wedding tomorrow? Help Jill satisfy her customers with her frosted culinary delights in Cake Mania 3.



Cake Mania 3 brings back the familiar cake baking experience, in exciting new locations. At the beginning of the game, you get to choose which location to start at, but you must complete each location before moving on to another. After the first few levels you are offered the chance to play a mini game. After unlocking each of the mini games, you can find them again from the play menu any time you want a short bit of cake fun!



  We had a good time checking out the new merchandise available in Cake Mania 3. Although it is all familiar, the same oven, froster, topper, etc, it is still fun to pick and choose. Another new feature we had fun with was the ability to change Jill's clothes. In each location she unlocks a different costume that she wears for that place. Once unlocked, you can find all the costumes in her closet. The boys had their usual interest in time management games...they like picking out the stuff and letting mom or big sister do the work! Cake Mania 3 is a great continuation to the Cake Mania story! Check out the beginning of the story with Cake Mania and Cake Mania 2

Jabber





Jabber is a game of finding words. Create words to collect letters from the puzzle to reassemble the story. After each level you have the option to read the newly assemble chapter, or continue on. Use the flowered letters for bonuses, and make sure you use the iced letters before they reach the bottom, or it is game over. Check your flowers in you window box to see just how far you have until the end of the level. Choose from story mode, or select action mode to play a continuous level of word finding!




Jabber will have you dropping words and pulling letters. You can see the score for each word as you build it. And the size if the dots on the tiles give you a clue as to how many points they are worth. It was neat to be able to read a short chapter on no more than two pages in between levels. There is a three round memory mini game every few levels also.





 The boys were not too interested in Jabber . And it was not too fondly looked upon by my daughter either. Overall, it makes a really cute word game. And it was easy to just fall into a mindless routine of finding words. Without a time limit, and no limit on how many three letter words you can submit, it would be a great word game for younger kids to play without getting frustrated by it. Jabber gets high marks as an educational pick, and a great game if you love to play with words and letters!

Turbo Fiesta





Robert and Rebecca are back again in Turbo Fiesta. This time we are taking burritos and fried ice cream into outer space. Take orders and serve your customers before their patience runs out. Don't forget your combos; this time they give you a literal boost! Again you can choose from various upgrades for the shop, the machinery, or for Robert and Rebecca. Watch out for the saboteurs this time around, and have fun getting the power flowing again with a great mini game stuck in every few levels.




Turbo Fiesta brought a fiesta to our house just finding out about it! We love the Turbo games! The boys were sitting with me, glued to the screen for quite a while. It is a family project to decide which upgrades to buy after each level! Turbo Fiesta did not disappoint us... it held all the phone we have come to expect from the Turbo games.


 We had one small issue with Turbo Fiesta. When my daughter went to run it on the kids' computer, it was so jerky it froze and wouldn't run. Although both computers in our house more than meet the minimum requirements that Big Fish Games lists on the Turbo Fiesta game page, I am beginning to think that all of the game sites need to list minimum video card requirements. Both computers are running versions of XP, with Pentium 4 2.40 GHz CPU, 9.0 Direct X, and plenty of hard drive space. My computer is running 1 GB of RAM with a 512 MB video card (AGP 8x). I had a great time with Turbo Fiesta.  The kids' computer only has 512 MB of RAM (over the minimum), but an old 64 MB video card (AGP 8x), and they can't get the game to run. Ah well, I was upgrading them to a 512 MB card this week anyways...I think they can live that long to play Turbo Fiesta! Make sure you take advantage of the free trial to make sure that Turbo Fiesta runs on your computer before you buy it!

System Mania





Get your own fix it shop going in System Mania. Gain new customers as you go. Get all those machines working... spin the wheels, pull the handles, push the buttons, switch the levers at the right time to make it happen. Watch out for the smoke screening your view, or the lights going out making your job just a bit more difficult. Catch the bonuses that fly out of the machine. Purchase upgrades to help you out of sticky spots. Is it too easy for you? Try out the "Trickey Switch"!




System Mania is full of levers to pull, wheels to spin, and buttons to push. If that is your thing, this is a fantastic thing. I prefer something with a bit more of a clear cut purpose, reason, or storyline. I didn't really see a point to this game. There are no clear instructions as to why you are flipping levers and spinning wheels. 




 The instructions are quite clear about how to move things, and there is ample practice provided to perfect your skills before using them on a level. The boys did not find the game at all appealing. They didn't even want to watch the game. My daughter opted against playing System Mania also.

Mystery Chronicles: Murder Among Friends





A murder mystery awaits you in Mystery Chronicles: Murder Among Friends. Can you find all the hidden clues to prove your cousin's wife innocent or guilty of his murder? Can you find the missing butler and children? Find all the hidden clues, and solve the mini puzzles hidden within the screens! Arrange the dominoes in the right order, find all the colored pencils to put into the box, fill in the missing words from the letter fragments, put back together the torn up floor plan, and more.





Mystery Chronicles: Murder Among Friends is a clever assortment of a hidden object and puzzle game. I enjoyed the little mini puzzles that would pop up mid level when I had found all the objects to complete that puzzle. The story is a sad one, but well written and engaging. The story takes place in 1899, so the strange items and darker pictures put the boys off a bit. It is hard to find what you don't know! How many grade school age children are familiar with the appearance of a musket, a pick, or a hornet's nest?

They did have a lot of fun finding the pieces of torn paper, and the horse shoe prints, etc. Mystery Chronicles: Murder Among Friends was a bit more interesting to my teenage daughter, who loves solving mysteries. Overall, Mystery Chronicles: Murder Among Friends is an engaging hidden object game that can be enjoyed as a family or by those of us who can recognize a musket!

The Princess Bride is one of my all time favorite movies. So much so, that I have tortured the kids by adding it to family movie night! I was in love with the idea of this game before I started it. It turns out to be incredibly simplistic, with a few cartooned over scenes from the movie. The kids were semi interested in the movie scenes, but quickly lost interest at the simplicity of the puzzles. The Princess Bride might be at a slight handicap in my reviewing it since I was having problems with the game not running smoothly. Since all of my hardware is up to date, I am not sure why it wouldn't run properly. Sort out the amphorae in The First Olympic Tidy Up. In a solitaire like fashion, sort the amphorae into stacking piles of ascending order. Additional numbers are added in to increase the difficulty as you rise through the levels. Earn points as you sort out each level, which you may use to purchase bonuses. Take advantage of an unlimited use of hints, undo, and restarts. Can you sort out the amphorae and tidy up the first Olympics?


The First Olympic Tidy Up is a clever puzzle game. Although it builds on the basic solitaire style of building your stacks in ascending order, the use of numbered amphorae is a pleasant twist. Because of the basic concept, I would recommend this game for younger children through adult. It is a pleasant game to relax to, or a fun game to learn number order, and logic skills. I did encounter what seems to be a glitch in The First Olympic Tidy Up; an impassable level. I hit a level that no matter how many hints, bonuses and restarts I used, the amphorae were caught in a never ending loop of moving to the same number on a different stack and back again. I am really hoping that Big fish games fixes this glitch, because the boys were fascinated with The First Olympic Tidy Up, and so was my daughter...right up until they saw the impassable level!

My daughter has her own opinions on fashion also, and this game can be glaringly hard to look at.

School House Shuffle offers you a chance to help direct a school and mold young minds. Use chaperons, hall monitors, janitors, etc to keep the children in their classes, and keep the school in order. Lead the children from class to class. The more time they spend in class during class time, the higher grade they receive, and the more money you earn to upgrade your school. Upgrade your school, and hire new staff to keep everything running smoothly, and give the children a better education.


School House Shuffle is a decent time management game. It doesn't run completely smoothly which detracts from the experience though. You have multiple characters to direct in School House Shuffle, and if you try to click on them while in a group, the wrong character will often move. Other times, if you click different characters across the screen from each other, but too close together in time, the wrong one will react. Most frustrating was when you set a character in a spot, and they would wander off after reaching it. The boys had no interest in School House Shuffle. That might be because it is a time management game, or perhaps because we homeschool, so the organized group movement to classes is strange to them. Either way, I found it frustrating, the boys had no interest, and my daughter decided against playing after she watched me for a few minutes.
