Hidden Mysteries: Civil War gives you a glimpse into history. You will visit the battles of the Civil War one year at a time. At each battle scene you will be given a list of objects that you must find. Notes and letters open when found to allow you to read the historical content. Several of them must be decoded before you can read them. You are always given three hints at the beginning of each year, and you may earn more at any time from the map screen. You must defeat a "minesweeper" type board to earn each additional hint. Play in timed or relaxed mode.

Each battle for that year is marked at its location by its name and an object that represents the area. After you have completed a scene the flag of the victorious forces waves above the location.
